The Philippines is located in Southeast Asia near an area close to the equator called the “Pacific Ring of Fire”. This area of land is specifically called this due to the volcanic activity around the area. This abundance of many islands is surrounded by the Philippine Sea and the South China Sea. The total area of the Philippines is about 300,000 square kilometers if you joined all of the islands together, which really is not that big at all. "Comparatively, the area occupied by the Philippines is slightly larger than the state of Arizona" ("Philippines", para. 8)
It is estimated that there are about 107,668,231 people living in the Philippines today containing different ethic groups such as the Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Bisaya, Hiligaynon, Ilonggo, Bikol, and Waray varying on the sections of the country. The religions include Catholicism, Islam, Evangelicalism, and many other forms of Christianity. Over 95% of the population can read and write, most learning over the age of fifteen. There are around 24 births per one thousand people in the population and about five deaths per one thousand people in the population. |
